Community Transport South Yorkshire

In October 2007, SCT became the lead body for Community Transport in the county.  Funding for CT from South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive is now channelled through SCT.  We have Service Level Agreements in place with our colleagues in Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster as well as three smaller schemes in Sheffield.

We are working closely together to promote closer operational co-operation and to provide a more coherent offer to passengers across South Yorkshire.  For example we will work to standardise fares for the different services we provide.  Already all new vehicles and some of the existing ones have the same ‘Door-to-door’ livery which creates a much more impressive image as part of the Travel South Yorkshire brand.

Low floor, low carbon minibus

We were successful in gaining funding from Sheffield Enterprise Clusters and the Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technologies for a feasibility study into a low floor, low carbon minibus.  We believe that if such a vehicle could be manufactured in sufficient volumes, there would be a huge take-up.  The study will hopefully pave the way for the next stage which will involve active research and development.

Accessing Opportunities Project

We are working closely with SYPTE to develop a package of transport related measures designed to assist the economic regeneration of the sub-region.  In particular we are hoping to extend and expand the very successful South Yorkshire Wheels to Work project.  Funding partners include Yorkshire Forward and Coalfields Regeneration Trust  For some employment opportunities public transport just isn’t there at the right times or locations.  The scheme has shown that by loaning out motorised two-wheelers to mostly younger people, they are able to take up job offers and get a foothold in the world of work.
